Hymen removal

Removal of the hymen is recommended in a few cases, especially when it has become overgrown or causes pain during intercourse because it is overgrown, too thick and richly innervated. Removal of the hymen takes place during a hymenotomy – a procedure that involves disrupting the continuity of the membrane or cutting it out completely using a laser or scalpel.
