Removal of skin lesions with a laser is the method of choice for aesthetic reasons, but not in all cases a treatment with it is possible. Surgery may be necessary, especially if the lesion is suspected to be a malignant tumour. The procedure is then accompanied by the collection of material for histopathological examination, which allows a definitive diagnosis to be made. Another indication for surgery may be the deep location of a lesion that the laser would not be able to remove in its entirety.
